Belgaum: In view of rising stabbing and criminal incidents in the city, the Belgaum Police Anti-Stabbing Squad conducted a special operation and arrested a man who was allegedly carrying a long machete in a public place.
On May 13, 2026, the Anti-Stabbing Squad team attached to Malmaruti Police Station was patrolling the Maruti Nagar 3rd Cross area when they noticed a suspicious individual moving around in a public place. During a search, police found that he was illegally carrying a long machete.
The arrested accused has been identified as Lalukhan Babukhan Pathan (50), a resident of Maruti Nagar, Belgaum. Police suspect that he was carrying the weapon with the intention of creating fear among the public and possibly committing a criminal act.
A case has been registered at Malmaruti Police Station under Crime No. 96/2026 under Section 27(1) of the Arms Act, 1959, and Section 97 of the Karnataka Police Act, 1963. The machete has been seized and further investigation is underway.
The operation was carried out by PSI P. M. Mohite and his team. Senior police officials have appreciated the action taken by the squad.
