Kagwad, June 5: Marking World Environment Day, the NCC unit of Shivanand College organized various environmental awareness activities with great enthusiasm on the college campus. The programme included a cleanliness drive, environmental awareness rally and tree plantation initiative.
The event began with NCC cadets carrying out a campus cleanliness drive, spreading the message of hygiene and environmental responsibility. Students later participated in an awareness rally highlighting the importance of environmental protection, tree conservation and a plastic-free society through slogans and public outreach activities. The rally received an encouraging response from students and local citizens.
Speaking on the occasion, NCC Officer Lieutenant Ashok R. Alagondi welcomed the gathering and explained the significance of World Environment Day. He emphasized that every individual must take personal responsibility for protecting the environment.
The programme was inaugurated with a tree plantation ceremony by Principal Dr. S. P. Talwar. Addressing the students, he said that climate change, rising temperatures, irregular rainfall and natural disasters are largely the result of human interference with nature. He urged students to adopt an eco-friendly lifestyle and take a pledge to plant and nurture at least one tree every year.
NSS Programme Officer Dr. Chandrashekhar Y. was also present as the chief guest and encouraged students to continue working actively for environmental conservation.
More than 50 NCC cadets and students actively participated in the programme. Along with planting saplings, students also pledged to take responsibility for their care and protection. The initiative created strong awareness about environmental conservation across the college campus.
The programme concluded with a collective pledge to protect nature and promote tree conservation.
