Jewellery Shop Owner Arrested for Staging Burglary; Gold, Silver and Cash Worth ₹65.95 Lakh Recovered

Belgaum, July 18: In a dramatic breakthrough, the Khadebazar Police have solved a reported jewellery shop burglary within a day, revealing that the complainant himself had staged the theft. Police have arrested the accused and recovered gold, silver, cash, and a two-wheeler collectively valued at ₹65.95 lakh.

According to the Belgaum City Police Commissionerate, Krishnanand Vishwanath Vernekar, a resident of Savarkar Road, Tilakwadi, had lodged a complaint on July 17 alleging that unidentified burglars had broken into V.P. Vernekar & Sons Jewellery Shop in Ramdev Galli on the night of July 16 and stolen gold and silver ornaments along with cash.

Based on the complaint, Khadebazar Police registered a case under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation.

During the investigation, police analysed the evidence, reconstructed the sequence of events, and questioned the complainant. The inquiry revealed that Vernekar himself had removed the jewellery and cash from his shop and transported them on his scooter.

Police subsequently seized a scooter worth ₹45,000, 519.8 grams of gold ornaments valued at ₹62,60,990, 31 grams of silver ornaments worth ₹6,000, and cash amounting to ₹2,83,010, taking the total value of the recovered property to ₹65.95 lakh.

The case was cracked by the Khadebazar Police team under the supervision of senior officers. The Belgaum City Police Commissioner has appreciated the investigating officers and staff for their swift and effective investigation.
