Amit Desai Submits Memorandum to Sharad Pawar Seeking Intervention on IT Sector Layoffs

In the backdrop of rising layoffs in the IT and corporate sectors across the country, Amit Shivajirao Desai, State President of the Engineer Cell of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar), met senior leader Sharad Pawar and submitted a memorandum highlighting the serious concerns faced by employees. Vikram Patil was also present during the meeting.

In the memorandum, Amit Desai pointed out that sudden large-scale layoffs in the IT and corporate sectors have pushed thousands of employees and their families into severe financial and emotional distress. He stated that many experienced professionals are losing their jobs without adequate notice, creating uncertainty and hardship among the salaried middle class.

The memorandum demanded strict implementation of labour laws, fair severance packages for employees, and transparency in termination procedures. It also alleged that several companies are bypassing ethical and legal norms while carrying out layoffs.

Desai further mentioned that the current job market is facing a major slowdown, making it extremely difficult for displaced employees to find alternative employment opportunities. As a result, affected workers are struggling to manage their financial responsibilities and household expenses.

A key demand raised in the memorandum was complete tax relief on severance packages. Amit Desai stated that IT and corporate professionals have been among the highest taxpayers in the country and deserve financial protection during this difficult period. He urged the government to provide tax-free severance benefits to help unemployed professionals sustain themselves until they secure new jobs.

During the meeting, Amit Desai requested Sharad Pawar to take up the issue with the Central Government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the Ministry of Labour and Employment to ensure immediate intervention and relief measures for affected employees.

The issue of increasing layoffs in the IT sector has once again sparked discussions regarding employee protection and the need for stronger labour safeguards in the corporate sector.
