Cartooning Is a Speaking Art, Says Veteran Cartoonist Jagdish Kunte

Belgaum: Veteran cartoonist said that the language of cartoons lies in lines, which at times are curved and at times irregular, but always expressive in conveying emotions and social realities.

He was speaking at a knowledge and entertainment programme organised by the Belgaum District Senior Citizens Society’s Sandhya Kiran Seva Kendra on the topic “Cartooning: A Speaking Art.” The event was held at Dr. Nita Deshpande Diabetes Centre in Somwar Peth, Tilakwadi. Society president Vishwas Dhuraji presided over the programme. Executive member Surendra Desai, vice-president K.L. Majukar and joint secretary Shivraj Patil were present on the dais.

Speaking on the occasion, Kunte said cartoons are broadly divided into social and political categories, and that social cartooning requires keen observation and awareness of surrounding situations. He also drew a few live caricatures and demonstrated cartooning techniques, receiving appreciation from the audience.

Industrialist felicitated Kunte with a silver Ganesh idol, gifts and a memento during the programme.

Ashwini Patil, Ravindranath Juvli, Shobha Hatarki, Arun Dhotre, Jagmohan Agarwal and Prakash Kudtarkar presented Hindi, Marathi and Kannada songs, while Bharat Gavade recited poetry.

Surendra Desai delivered the introductory speech, Shivraj Patil introduced the guests and K.L. Majukar proposed the vote of thanks.
