Belgaum : Sri Ram Sena, Belgaum unit, has submitted a memorandum to the District Commissioner demanding the immediate closure of illegal slaughterhouses in and around the city and strict measures to prevent cow slaughter ahead of the upcoming Bakri-ed festival.
The memorandum was submitted on Thursday under the leadership of North Karnataka State President Ravikumar Kokitkar. Speaking to the media afterwards, Kokitkar said that animal sacrifice is performed during Bakrid, which will be observed on May 28, and alleged that cows are also being slaughtered along with goats.
He stated that although Karnataka has a law banning cow slaughter, its strict implementation is lacking. He alleged that cattle smuggling and illegal slaughter are continuing openly and urged the administration to take immediate action to stop such activities.
Sri Ram Sena has demanded that police set up checkpoints at important locations across Belgaum, inspect suspicious vehicles, intensify night patrols, and shut down all illegal slaughterhouses in the city.
Kokitkar also said that Sri Ram Sena workers are prepared to work day and night to prevent cow slaughter. He appealed to the administration to take necessary steps to ensure law and order is maintained during the festival. He warned that if their demands are ignored, the administration and government would be responsible for any resulting situation.
North Karnataka Vice President Vinay Angroli and several other office-bearers and workers of Sri Ram Sena were present on the occasion.
