Historic Relief for Jai Kisan Association; High Court Clears Way for Merits Hearing Before KAT on July 27

Belgaum, July 14: In a significant legal victory for the Jai Kisan Wholesale Vegetable Merchant Association, the Dharwad Bench of the Karnataka High Court on Monday condoned the delay in the case, paving the way for further proceedings on its merits.

The hearing, which began around 4:45 p.m., lasted nearly one and a half hours, during which both sides presented detailed arguments. Representing the Jai Kisan Association, a team of four advocates argued extensively on the issue of delay, which had remained pending for the past nine months.

After hearing both parties, the High Court condoned the delay and permitted the case to proceed. The court also dismissed two writ petitions filed by the APMC, Belgaum, and Mr. Siddagouda Modagi.

Further, the High Court directed that the matter be transferred to the Karnataka Appellate Tribunal (KAT) for adjudication on its merits. The first hearing before the KAT has been scheduled for July 27, 2026.

The court also imposed costs of ₹25,000 on the opposing parties in connection with the dismissed writ petitions.

Welcoming the order, the Jai Kisan Wholesale Vegetable Merchant Association said the judgment gives fresh momentum to its legal battle concerning the wholesale vegetable market. The association expressed gratitude to its legal team, members, farmers, traders, supporters, and well-wishers for their unwavering support.

Association office-bearers stated that the milestone was achieved through unity, determination, and faith, and appealed to all stakeholders to continue standing together until justice is secured.
