Court Stay Allegedly Ignored, Belgaum City Corporation Demolishes Kiosk; Contempt Petition Filed

Belgaum: A fresh legal controversy has emerged after the Belgaum City Corporation allegedly demolished a roadside kiosk despite an interim protection order issued by a civil court. The affected party has now filed a contempt of court petition, accusing the civic body of wilfully violating the court’s directions.

According to the petitioner, Gajanan Bhandurge, a civil suit had been filed regarding possession of the property. During the proceedings, the court granted an interim injunction restraining any interference with the plaintiff’s lawful possession until the matter was decided through due legal process.

Despite the court’s order, the Belgaum City Corporation reportedly carried out a demolition drive using a bulldozer and razed the kiosk. The petitioner claims that the action amounted to a direct violation of the court’s injunction.

Following the demolition, a contempt petition has been filed before the court against the City Corporation authorities, seeking action for alleged disobedience of the judicial order. A complaint has also been submitted to the Tilakwadi Police Station, along with copies of the court order and other supporting documents.

The incident has sparked questions over adherence to judicial directives by civic authorities. Legal experts note that if the court finds that its interim order was knowingly violated, it may initiate contempt proceedings against the officials concerned.

The matter is expected to come up for hearing shortly, and the court’s response to the alleged violation will be closely watched. Meanwhile, the Belgaum City Corporation is yet to issue an official statement on the allegations.
