Aequs SEZ in Belgaum Achieves Near 100% Renewable Energy Adoption, Sets New Benchmark for Green Manufacturing

Belgaum, June 6: Aequs SEZ, home to the Belgaum Aerospace Cluster (BAC), has emerged as one of India’s cleanest manufacturing ecosystems by achieving near 100% renewable energy adoption across its operations, setting a new benchmark for sustainable industrial infrastructure.

Spread across more than 250 acres, the SEZ meets its energy requirements through a combination of rooftop solar installations, open-access renewable power sourced from third-party providers, and green energy supplied by the State Electricity Board. This integrated approach has enabled the cluster to transition almost entirely to renewable energy.

Speaking on the occasion of World Environment Day, Shyam Kalyanasundaram, CEO of Aequs Infra, said sustainability is embedded in the company’s approach to designing and operating industrial ecosystems. He noted that the Belgaum facility demonstrates how large-scale manufacturing can successfully integrate renewable energy while maintaining reliability, operational efficiency, and cost competitiveness.

The campus operates through its own licensed internal power distribution network and currently serves more than 35 industrial customers, including global and Indian companies supplying components to major aerospace manufacturers worldwide.

According to Aequs, the green energy model not only reduces carbon emissions but also provides businesses within the cluster with more than 30% cost savings through operational efficiencies.

A key feature of the Belgaum Aerospace Cluster is its integrated manufacturing ecosystem. While aerospace components in conventional supply chains may travel thousands of kilometres during production, BAC has consolidated the entire value chain within a single campus, reducing transportation distances to less than 500 metres and significantly lowering logistics-related emissions.

Encouraged by the success of the Belgaum model, Aequs Infra is now implementing similar sustainable industrial ecosystems at its facilities in Hubballi and Koppal, including India’s first Consumer Durable Goods Cluster and a dedicated Toy Cluster.
