Khanapur MES Meeting Adopts Aggressive Stand on Marathi Signboards

Resolutions Passed on Border Issue, Tribute to Martyrs and Marathi Language Protection

Khanapur: A meeting of the Khanapur Taluka Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti (MES) was held under the chairmanship of president Shri Gopalrao Balwant Desai. The welcome address and introductory remarks were delivered by general secretary Shri Abasaheb Dalvi.

During the meeting, it was decided that all members would gather at Hindalga on June 1, 2026, to pay tribute to the martyrs of the 1986 Kannada imposition movement and activists who sacrificed during various border agitations.

The meeting strongly opposed the anti-Marathi stand taken by Kannada organizations and the administration regarding Marathi signboards on government offices and establishments. The Khanapur MES announced full support to any agitation or directive issued by the central Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti on the issue.

Members also suggested that expert committee chairman Shri Dhairyashil Mane and other representatives should hold discussions with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar and opposition leaders, and organize a protest demonstration outside the Chief Minister’s residence in Mumbai.

The meeting passed a resolution congratulating Belgaum City Corporation Marathi corporators Ravi Salunkhe, Shivaji Mandolkar and Vaishali Bhatkhande for strongly raising their voice in support of Marathi identity and rejecting resolutions perceived to be against the border issue.

The members demanded that the border dispute case pending before the Supreme Court should begin without delay and urged the high-level and expert committees to convene meetings immediately. The gathering also appreciated Marathi youth activists who met at Shivsmarak on May 24, 2026, and resolved to work for the protection and promotion of the Marathi language.

Former MLA Digambar Patil and Shri Rajaram Desai appealed to loyal MES workers not to participate in the programs of individuals who had joined national political parties after holding various positions in the organization. They also urged workers not to engage in activities that could weaken the Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti.

The meeting was attended by Prakash Chavan, working president Muralidhar Patil, youth president Dhananjay Patil, Ajit Patil, Jaysingrao Patil, Prakash Patil, Shivaji Patil, Krishna Mannolkar, Amrut Shelar, S.H. Gurav, Pundalik Patil, Nagesh Bhosale, Sandesh Kodachwadkar, Gopal Patil, Pandurang Sawant, Ramesh Dhabale, V.V. Patil and several other activists

The meeting concluded with tributes being paid to late T.K. Patil, late Arjunrao Goral and other departed MES activists. Co-secretary Ranjit Patil delivered the vote of thanks at the end of the session.
