Khanapur’s Daughter-in-Law Awarded Ph.D. for Research on Folk Arts

Khanapur: Prof. Sunita G. Rakshe-Gurav, daughter-in-law of Savargaali village in Khanapur taluk and a Marathi professor at the Government First Grade College, Nippani, has been awarded a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree by Karnataka University, Dharwad.

Her research thesis, titled “The Influence of Goa on the Folk Arts of Khanapur Taluk: A Comparative Study,” highlights the rich cultural heritage of the region through extensive academic research. Over the past six years, she conducted an in-depth study of Khanapur’s folk traditions, including festivals, folk dances, folk theatre, folk tales, traditional games, dialects, and folk songs, while examining their cultural links with Goa.

Prof. Rakshe-Gurav visited numerous villages across the taluk, interacted with local artists, and documented valuable cultural information before presenting her thesis to the university.

The Ph.D. degree was conferred during the university’s recent convocation ceremony in the presence of dignitaries, including the Governor of Karnataka and university officials.

Guided by Dr. Yashwant Raut, her research received support from several academicians, cultural enthusiasts, teachers, and students. Her achievement has been widely appreciated and is being viewed as a significant contribution to preserving and documenting the cultural legacy of Khanapur taluk.

Her accomplishment has brought pride to Khanapur and strengthened the region’s academic and cultural stature.
